This summer the Lawrenceville School Office of Sustainability is continuing a field ecology internship program in land stewardship for the school’s extended property. While the core campus occupies 30 acres, the school owns 640 acres of farmland, forest, wetlands, and fields. The recently completed Land Stewardship plan outlines a management strategy to enhance wildlife habitat in wetlands, forests, and other natural areas owned by Lawrenceville. This work is being done in partnership with ecologists from the Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space (FoHVOS). Land stewardship work includes vegetation mapping, invasive species removal, rare species identification, deer herd management, and related ecosystem efforts.
As part of this work, the office of sustainability is offering five ecological restoration internship positions for day students. This work will consist of five days working with FoHVOS ecologists conducting invasive species removal, visiting nearby restoration sites, and making a poster for the fall Academic Showcase. Interns will work together on 7/8-7/12.
A total of 5 positions are available. Please complete the requested information in iCIMS by February 19. Important note: This program is geared towards day students. If you are a boarder interested in this type of work, please carefully study this document and then contact Dr. Laubach so he can help you look for similar opportunities with nonprofit conservation and sustainability organizations near your home.
