Overview

The Department of Public Safety & Security exists as a support and service unit of The Lawrenceville School.


The department is community-oriented and will engage with the student, staff, and visitors to accomplish its mission through excellence in safety, security, and traffic management. This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Safety. All employees must be available to work any shift including extra hours, sometimes with minimal notification. Hours can be days, evenings, overnight and weekends. Shifts will primarily consist of Friday, Saturday and Sundays, 3pm-11pm, 4pm-12am, and 12am-8am

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a daily shift log (report).
  • Record/report any and all safety hazards on log sheet.
  • File formal reports and complete log entries for any and all incidents (accidents, alarms, investigations, etc.) that occur on campus.
  • Engage and assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Assist motorists with vehicle problems (i.e., jump starts, keys locked in vehicle, assist them in getting further help, etc.)
  • Ensure all fire lanes and hydrants are free from obstruction.
  • Patrol campus roadways and parking lots
  • Record any and all vehicles from coming onto campus between the hours of 9PM and 7AM.
  • Act as first responder to all First Aid/CPR calls on campus.
  • Make sure all campus buildings are secured and report any unsecured areas.
  • Monitor the Access Control Computer and Fire Alarm Computer.
  • Check outside lights during each shift and report any inoperative lights on the shift log.
  • Provide walking patrols around dormitories and buildings during the evening and midnight shifts.
  • Perform Fire Prevention and Safety checks during all shifts.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and a minimum of six months prior relevant experience; experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a required background check.
  • Must possess a current certification in CPR/AED.
  • EMS, Fire, or Police experience is preferred.
  • Able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Basic knowledge in alarm systems is preferred.
  • High level of work skills and behaviors: teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
  • Able to work well with all levels of Campus Personnel including faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, visitors, and guests.
  • Must be available to work extra hours including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays and must be flexible for various shifts and schedules.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
